Volunteer Spotlight, Brianna Sweyd

What led you to volunteering at Folsom History?

I thought that volunteering at the Folsom History Museum would be a great way to start my career, and I spend a lot of time in Old Folsom so I had always seen the Folsom History Museum and I decided that the museum was a good fit for me!

What has been your favorite thing about the museum?

I like that it’s a very friendly place, I’ve met lots of new people here and it’s really helped me improve my social skills.

Has there been any exciting behind the scenes moments that you remember?

One of my favorite behind the scenes moments has been the opportunity that I was given where I helped take down an exhibit and move artifacts back into archives.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to volunteer at the museum?

I would say to just go for it, it’s a great environment and you really learn a lot here.

What is something you have gained from volunteering at the museum?

I think that volunteering at the museum has helped me gain a valuable head-start on my career.

What are your plans for after school? Has volunteering influenced your decision?

My plan for after high school is to go to college and study history and museum studies, and I’m hoping to at least earn a master's degree. I think that volunteering has helped me figure out that a career in history is what I’m truly passionate about and that it’s the best route for me.

What’s your favorite Folsom factoid?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one, but I think that the town’s involvement in the Gold Rush is fascinating!

Anything else you’d like to add about your time volunteering with FH that you’d love people to know.

I really enjoy all of the special projects that go on and how there’s something for everyone here! There’s something here to cater to everyone’s abilities and interests!
